Samana
Samaná is a city on the Samaná peninsula, in the Dominican Republic. It has a viewpoint towards Samaná Bay, which is home to thousands of humpback whales during the mating season, which occurs in winter. The main attraction of the Whale Museum is a large skeleton of a whale. The town’s seafront promenade, the Malecón, has restaurants and bars. Cayo Levantado, located in the bay, is a small island known for its palm-lined beaches.
San Felipe de Puerto Plata is the capital of the province of Puerto Plata, on the northern Atlantic coast of the Dominican Republic. The city is known for its beaches. The vast expanse of Playa Dorada is protected by tourist centers and an 18-hole golf course. The old city center dates back to colonial times and is dominated by the 16th-century San Felipe Fortress, a Spanish building that currently houses historical and military artifacts.
Monte Cristi is the Dominican Republic’s most northwestern province, bordering Haiti, and about 3 hours’ drive from Puerto Plata or 2 hours from Santiago. It’s uniquely located in a topography that offers clear emerald green beaches, natural swimming pools surrounded by mangroves, vibrant wildlife, uninhabited little islands (keys/cayos), and arid desert-like mountains, Monte Cristi was founded by Nicolás de Ovando in 1506 and populated in 1533 by Juan de Bolaños.
